Logical Reasoning Test

Logical reasoning tests are designed to assess a candidate's ability to solve complex problems.

  • What is a logical reasoning test and what does it measure?

A logical reasoning test assesses a candidate's ability to use their logical thinking and reasoning skills to identify a pattern or sequence in a series of images, symbols, or data. Of all the aptitude tests, it is perhaps the most challenging for those who have never encountered it before.

The test will help measure the thinking process of a candidate by testing their ability to make sense of information, spot trends and patterns. It will also show an individual's ability to keep calm under pressure and solve non-verbal and non-numerical problems.

In a business environment, logical reasoning is an important skill to have across a huge range of job roles. For example, if you are shown a business report and can identify a trend, or if you are a programmer trying to debug coding problems.

About the Logical Reasoning Test

Logical reasoning is a type of pre-employment test that helps evaluate a person's problem-solving skills. It is used by employers to help them make better hiring decisions and more accurately assess candidates' capacity to perform the job.

The ability to solve problems well is a universal skill, which is why these tests are used by employers hiring for a wide range of roles.

In most jobs, problem-solving is a highly valued skill and the logical reasoning test examines how skillful a candidate is in solving logical problems. As a result, the logical reasoning test is a common part of the recruitment process.

  • Why should you use a logical reasoning test for recruiting?

It can be difficult to know if a candidate has logical reasoning skills. It’s not a skill usually listed on a resume or application, which is why a logical reasoning test can be essential.

By providing a candidate with an aptitude test and receiving their test score, your hiring team can collect quantitative data which is comparable across applicants, allowing you to identify your top performers. This helps improve the quality of your hiring decisions and reduce bias.

The multiple-choice questions are often based on daily work activities that might require logical reasoning. This gives an employer a realistic insight into how an applicant might perform in the role they are applying for.

Results for the Logical Reasoning Test along with other assessments the candidate takes will be compiled to produce a candidate report. The report is automatically generated and available both online and as a downloadable pdf so they can be shared with other team members and employees alike.

The format of Pickeds logical reasoning test

The logical reasoning test contains 10 questions that the candidates have to answer within 10 minutes, so it's important that they find a balance between speed and accuracy.

As with most aptitude tests, candidates normally have around one minute to answer each question on the logical reasoning test. The questions will require a pattern or sequence to be completed by selecting one of the five available response options. Each question has one correct answer and four distractors that are incorrect but similar to it, thus helping to assess candidates' proficiency in logical reasoning and attention.
